At Macworld/iWorld 2013 this week in San Francisco, ESET introduced new security products for Mac OS X -- ESET Cyber Security (starting at $39.99) and ESET Cyber Security Pro (starting at $59.99).

"Security is important on Macs as well as on PCs and mobile devices," the company said in a statement. "The appearance of highly publicized Mac-related malware, such as the Flashback Trojan which infected 500,000 Macs this past April, has highlighted the fact that cybercriminals are no longer focused on PC users alone."

Key enhancements in both new solutions include Web and e-mail scanning, in-depth customization of security settings, cloud-powered malware scanning, and automatic scanning of removable media.

ESET Cyber Security Pro also adds parental controls and a customizable personal firewall.

"Although the amount of malware targeted at the Mac platform remains low compared to that aimed at other major platforms such as Windows and Android, it has been steadily increasing since 2004," Andrew Lee, CEO of ESET North America, said in a statement. "That's a troubling trend and one we're committed to addressing. Our new Mac solutions protect against the most advanced malware threats, while still offering the simplicity, speed and 'light footprint' users expect from ESET products."
