Establishing Digital Trust: Don't Sacrifice Security for Convenience
The Facebook page of former Secretary of State Colin Powell recently began posting extremely unusual messages and images.
"'KILL THE ILLUMINATI! TOMORROW’S WORLD WILL BE A WORLD FREE OF ILLUMINATI OR WILL BE NO MORE!' read one post captured in a screenshot," writes The New York Daily News' Kristen A. Lee. "'YOU WILL BURN IN HELL, BUSH!' was another."
"It appears that whoever broke into Colin Powell's Facebook account didn't do so to steal secrets -- but rather in a mischievous attempt to redistribute private photographs and emails previously stolen from the families of former presidents George H.W. Bush George W. Bush," writes Sophos' Graham Cluley. "Indeed, some of the posts made to Colin Powell's Facebook account contain images previously posted online by a hacker named 'Guccifer,' who doxed the Bush family last month."
"Experts believe the hacker either guessed the general’s password or he obtained it from another compromised website," writes Softpedia's Eduard Kovacs. "The second scenario implies that Powell used the same password to protect all his accounts, a practice which unfortunately is not uncommon."https://o1.qnsr.com/log/p.gif?;n=203;c=204650394;s=9477;x=7936;f=201801171506010;u=j;z=TIMESTAMP;a=20392931;e=i
Soon after, Powell wrote on Facebook, "Dear Friends, I'm happy to report that the hacking problem has been fixed. We have been working with fb this morning and they took immediate action to remedy the situation."
