Payment processor PayJunction recently began notifying an undisclosed number of its sales agents that their names, Social Security numbers and bank account numbers may have been exposed when a data backup of an internal business system was inappropriately accessed (h/t DataBreaches.net).
“In late September, upon learning that unauthorized access occurred in July, PayJunction promptly reported it to law enforcement and took immediate steps to investigate the matter,” PayJunction president Randy Modos wrote in the notification letter [PDF].
While there’s no indication at this point that any of the information has been misused, the company is offering all those affected one year of free identity protection services from AllClear ID.
“We are making every improvement necessary to ensure that this type of data loss does not occur in the future,” Modos wrote. “We value the relationships we have built with our sales agents over the last decade, you are the foundation of our success, and we will continue to take steps to remedy this issue.”
