Micro Focus is a software business based in the UK. It offers software and consultancy and is listed on the London Stock Exchange. In 2017, it merged with Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s (HPE) Software Business to become the world’s seventh largest pure-play software company. Its product portfolio spans analytics, big data, application developing, programming, collaboration, information management, DR, IT operations management, mainframe and security. It has more than 5.800 employees.

Product Description

SecureData provides an end-to-end data-centric approach to enterprise data protection, securing data persistently at-rest, in-motion and in-use. With Hyper Format-preserving Encryption (FPE), it protects data at the field level, preserves format and context (language, character support, date ranges, referential integrity), and provides granular policy controls on virtually all data classes. Features include scalability, high performance for Big Data, Stateless Key Management, and integration with all kinds of technologies, standards and platforms. This includes Apache NiFi, and native, simple API and REST interfaces.

Agents

It is agentless. It provides transparent data protection for IBM Mainframe, HPE NonStop, Hadoop and applications, as well as integrations with Hadoop tools such as Storm/Kafka, Hive, Sqoop, and Big Data platforms such as Teradata and HPE Vertica. The company also delivers developer templates for rapid adaptation to new open source tools as they emerge.

Markets and Use Cases

Key use cases include Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT), GDPR compliance, and hybrid IT. Key markets span telecom, financial services, manufacturing, insurance, payments processing, ecommerce, and regulated environments.

Applicable Metrics

In Big Data/IoT, the company claims use cases with global mobile operators protecting 10 billion transactions per day involving personal data, location data, and call detail records.

Security Qualifications

Sensitive data is protected with NIST Standard FF1 AES encryption. Security qualification include NIST FIPS 140-2 and HIPAA/PCI/SOX/GDPR.

Intelligence

Delivers real-time auditing, monitoring and reporting, as well as simplified discovery, classification, granular policy controls, user and role based access to help automate data security and regulatory compliance.

Standalone or Suite

SecureData is a suite of capabilities that include encryption.

Delivery

Software virtual appliance with secure root of trust, integrated Hardware Security Module (HSM).

Pricing

Available via a software license agreement. Pricing varies by per application or per node (as in big data environments). Example: A starter kit in the big data space offers perpetual license data protection in a 5-node Hadoop cluster at $60,000.
