L.A. Care Health Plan Acknowledges Data Breach
The breach, the company says, resulted from 'a manual information processing error which we have since corrected.'
California's L.A. Care Health Plan recently began notifying an undisclosed number of health plan members that their personal information was inadvertently disclosed online.
"On January 24, 2014, we became aware that some L.A. Care Covered members who logged onto our payment portal were able to see another member's name, address and member identification number. ... We were able to confirm that the disclosures took place between January 22, 2014 to January 24, 2014 and were the result of a manual information processing error which we have since corrected," L.A. Care privacy and information security officer Veronica Richardson wrote in the notification letter [PDF].
No additional data, such as Social Security number, driver's license number, or financial information, was exposed, according to the company.
All those affected are being provided with new member identification numbers.
Health plan members with questions are advised to contact (855) 270-2327 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
