The Austrian energy company Energie Steiermark yesterday announced that unidentified hackers had recently breached a company Web server (h/t Softpedia).

According to Energie Steiermark, gas customers were affected by the breach, though it's not clear from the company's statement how they were affected.

The breach was discovered when an alarm was triggered by an "early warning system," and the company says "immediate, comprehensive preventive measures have been taken." The state police and Austria's Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) were notified immediately.

While Energie Steiermark says no bank account information was accessed, the company hasn't yet determined exactly what data was exposed.
