Anonymous Hackers Target Hawthorne Police Department

Members of Anonymous recently posted a video on YouTube threatening to target the Hawthorne, Calif., police department, after a video of a Hawthorne police officer shooting a dog was posted online.

“Recently you watched the well known video, involving a police officer from Hawthorne, that shot a dog dead because the dog wanted to help its owner,” the Anonymous video states. “That is unacceptable. Police of Hawthorne you must know that you are our primary target. This matter will not remained unresolved.”

The Hawthorne Police Department’s Sgt. Joe Romero told CBS Los Angeles that the department’s IT technicians are currently working to mitigate the threat. “They are working around the clock to start upgrading and they are working on our information systems and firewall systems,” he said.

The video of the shooting has already exceeded 4.5 million views on YouTube.
