PerimeterX Looks Beyond the WAF to Protect the Web Against Bots

There was a brief period of time when defending a web server application simply required a Web Application Firewall (WAF). In 2017, threats have evolved beyond the capabilities of WAFs with bots, account takeovers and other attacks hitting web servers every second of every day.

Security startup Perimeterx was founded with the promise of helping organizations defend against next-generation attacks.

“We’re looking at the application level. We’re not trying replace WAFs, we’re trying to extend them,” Ido Safruti, co-founder and CTO of PerimeterX, told eSecurityPlanet.

PerimeterX can complement a WAF, with defenses that deal with the business logic of an application where a bot is trying to abuse an application and not necessarily hijack a server. Safruti said that PerimeterX is looking to help prevent bot abuse, credit card fraud, brute force attacks, data scraping, click fraud and shopping cart abuse.
