Missouri Credit Union Acknowledges Data Breach

KRCG reports that a file containing member information was mistakenly made available on the Missouri Credit Union‘s Web site on August 5, 2013 (h/t DataBreaches.net).

The file was accessed 10 times before it was removed. According to KRCG, members’ names, addresses, Social Security numbers, account numbers and teller/call-in passwords were potentially exposed.

On August 16, 2013, all 39,000 Missouri Credit Union members were notified by mail, and were offered a free year of identity protection services from AllClear ID.

“On behalf of myself and everyone at MCU, I apologize to all members affected by this incident,” Missouri Credit Union president Hal James said in a statement. “Please be assured that we are working to enhance our security measures to prevent something like this from happening in the future.”
