A recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Courion found that almost one in five (19 percent) of those aged 18-34 who work in an office setting would take company information like customer data, price lists or product plans if they knew they were about to be fired.
The survey also found that 16 percent of those who work in an office setting and have ever changed jobs say they’ve been able to use old user IDs and passwords to access their former employer’s network.
“Too often, companies have no real idea who is accessing what and when,” Courion president and CEO Christopher Zannetos said in a statement. “And if you think of how many employees flow through a large organization, you’re looking at significant risk. Add partners, customers and others with whom you share critical business information, and the exposure is massive.”
