The University of Delaware has announced that a recent security breach exposed the names, addresses, employee identification numbers and Social Security numbers of 72,000 current and former employees, including student employees (h/t DataBreaches.net).
The breach, which occured on or about July 17, 2013, was discovered on July 22, 2013, and notification letters were sent to all those affected on July 29, 2013.
"The University took immediate corrective actions and is working closely with Federal Bureau of Investigation officials and Mandiant, a leading private computer security firm, on the issue," the university said in a statement. "The University continues to investigate the scope of the attack. While this forensic investigation is underway, the University is taking steps to protect itself from future cyberattacks."
All those affected are being offered free credit monitoring services from Kroll Advisory Solutions.
