Arkansas State University (ASU) was recently alerted by the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) to a data breach in the university's Department of Childhood Services (h/t DataBreaches.net).

The breach involved a database related to the Traveling Arkansas Professional Pathways (TAPP) registry, a professional development system for early childhood practictioners -- the database held personally identifiable information including partial Social Security numbers for most of those affected, and full Social Security numbers for some.

"We have confirmed unauthorized access to data, but we have no reports regarding illegal use of the information in these files," ASU CIO Henry Torres said in a statement. "We took immediate measures to address this issue after being notified by DHS. We are cooperating with DHS and working with programmers to assess and resolve the situation."

Approximately 50,000 potentially affected people will be notified of the breach. Anyone with questions is advised to contact (855) 363-1011.
