1,213 Alleged Identity Thieves Arrested in China

Xinhua reports that China's Ministry of Public Security recently announced the arrest of 1,213 people for suspected personal information trafficking (h/t Softpedia).

According to the Ministry of Public Security, the people arrested were members of 468 gangs. The police seized more than 700 million pieces of stolen personal information, along with several computers, hard drives and positioning devices used in the marketing of personal data.

The arrests allegedly solved a total of 1,327 cases of personal information trafficking.

The Ministry of Public Security has launched three nationwide campaigns targeting identity thieves since 2012, and says it will continue to crack down on such activities.
