T-Mobile & Lookout Mobile Security Partner

T-Mobile USA and Lookout recently announced a partnership to provide Automatic App Security from Lookout pre-loaded on T-Mobile’s Android devices.

“There will be a $2.99-per-month option for those who want to upgrade to Lookout’s full security software, which also includes features to help find or erase a lost device, as well as additional privacy protections,” writes AllThingsD’s Ina Fried. “T-Mobile is slated to start including Automatic App Security on some Android phones next month, and plans to include it on most Android devices beginning in January.”

“Automatic App Security is designed to scan all apps that users download to make sure they are malware-free and will not harm the device,” iTech Post reports. “If the software detects any harmful or suspicious apps, it will notify the user. As Automatic App Security will come preloaded and already turned on in T-Mobile smartphones and tablets, users will not need to register or set-up the feature themselves.”

“T-Mobile isn’t the only carrier that’s trying to help its customers protect their devices from malicious malware,” notes CNET News’ Dara Kerr. “Verizon also recently introduced its Mobile Security app for Android, which is free and gives users basic antivirus protection and alerts.”

“Lookout already scans more than 36 million applications for T-Mobile customers every day,” Ian McKerlich, T-Mobile USA’s vice president of product management, said in a statement. “Preloading Automatic App Security on our devices allows even more customers to enjoy the security and peace of mind of knowing that they’re protected with the leading Android mobile security and antivirus app.”
