Security officials at Microsoft will release just one critical fix to the Windows operating system this month, the company’s Web site stated.
The Redmond, Wash.-based software company routinely gives end users and systems administrators a hint of what’s on tap for security bulletins in the days leading up to Patch Tuesday, which is on the second Tuesday of the month.
The Microsoft advisory states the September security bulletin affects the Windows platform, though the bulletin itself can contain fixes for several vulnerabilities. Officials said administrators will be able to download the critical fix using the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA).
Officials said they will also release an updated version of its Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, which can be downloaded through Windows Update, Microsoft Update, Windows Server Update Services or the company’s download center.
In addition to the security patch, Microsoft is releasing a non-security high-priority patch for Windows.
