Flexera has been in existence since 1987 as a private company. It offers monetization and security solutions. Its Vulnerability and Software Asset Management (SAM) solutions, for example, strips waste and unpredictability out of procuring software, helping companies buy only the software and cloud services they need, manage what they have, and reduce compliance and security risk. It has more than 1,200 employees and 80,000 customers. In 2002, Secunia Research started investigating, coordinating disclosure and verifying software vulnerabilities. In 2016, Secunia Research became a part of Flexera as an in-house software vulnerability research arm.
Flexera Corporate Software Inspector continuously identifies vulnerable applications and applies security patches. It leverages verified vulnerability intelligence to assess over 20,000 applications, drives patch prioritization based on criticality of vulnerabilities and security policies, provides tested patch packages for non-Microsoft applications, and integrates with management tools for patch deployment. Its main features include vulnerability advisories, patch assessment for Windows, Mac OS and Linux (RHEL), patch prioritization, prepackaged patches, packaging wizard, patch automation, third-party patching for windows and integration with WSUS and SCCM, workflow and compliance orchestration and reporting. Patch management capabilities are offered as an independent product, as well as part of a larger platform to manage software vulnerabilities.
"Flexera is the only vendor with software vulnerability assessment and patching capabilities in a single platform," said Kasper Lindgaard, Senior Director of Secunia Research at Flexera.
Markets and Use Cases
Its key markets are North America and Europe.
Flexera can handle large enterprise deployments. It is used to discover, verify, validate and document vulnerabilities in over 55,000 products.
Flexera uses Vulnerability Intelligence by Secunia Research. Advisories are sent out for all vulnerabilities, signatures for new threats are added to assessment tools, and the product tests and repackages patches for the most common desktop applications. It also has customizable reports and dashboards for analytics.
Method of Delivery
On-premises, virtual appliance and cloud.
Agents are used to determine the patch status of installed programs, and agentless assessment is also available. Agents can be deployed as packages for installation, or distributed as files through third-party systems such as SCCM and executed via command line.
