ICSA Labs, a division of Verizon Business, has released a white paper, entitled Living On the Edge: Understanding the Network Attached Peripherals on Your Network and the Risks They Pose, which looks a the security issues tied to such seeming harmless devices as printers, security cameras and UPS systems.

"Historically, many network peripherals were just dumb devices with limited functionality that posed little risk... Yet many of these devices now bear a striking resemblance to an unsecured server on your network, with multiple ports open to all users and a disk drive that could contain sensitive information," the white paper states.
