At its CA World 2002 show in Orlando this week, Computer Associates announced a security tool intended to provide "visual" insight into security breaches of both the cyber and physical variety.

CA says its eTrust 20/20 can collect the massive amounts of data resident in logs from IT and physical security tools and cull through it to find the nuggets that indicate real problems. The product features an interface meant to depict buildings and applications that makes it easier for users to follow an intruder's actions. eTrust 20/20 takes advantage of CA's Neugent technology to mine the data that comes from such diverse systems as audit logs, badge readers and human resources applications.

Neugents use neural network technology that is said to be able to identify actions that are out of the norm, based on past behavior, and to predict events that may happen based on past indicators. When used with eTrust 20/20, Neugents help identify the trends and events that indicate a security breach.

The product also includes a playback feature that, combined with the visualization techniques employed in the interface, allows users to essentially trace, analyze and document the steps an intruder takes. The display also shows where access is authorized for each individual, for both physical and IT systems.

CA's eTrust line also includes access control, virus protection, identity management, policy enforcement and other security tools.
