Oxford University today launched a new Cyber Security Center aimed at studying and mitigating computer security threats.

"In a statement it said that since we live in what it called 'a data-centric world' we should have systems that support this," writes The Inquirer's Dave Neal. "This extends beyond the individual that clicks on a link from someone they do not know on Facebook and installs an app to businesses, the army, government and national infrastructures."

"Step forward these men and women then, who will research computer security threats and oversee research activity with a £5m pool of investment," Neal writes. "The newly formed group should lead to more research, it added, and has 12 full time academics, 25 researchers and 18 doctoral students at its disposal."
