Check Point Software Technologies today introduced ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall 2013, a free solution designed to protect consumers from cyber attacks, viruses, spyware and other threats.
"ZoneAlarm Antivirus and Firewall features an antivirus and spyware scan engine, two-way firewall, OS firewall, advanced download protection and identity theft protection," writes PC Advisor's Chris Martin.
"It's the same free firewall that ZoneAlarm has produced for years, but with basic antivirus and anti-malware tools included," notes CNET News' Seth Rosenblatt. "It's basically ZoneAlarm PRO Antivirus + Firewall from last year, with an updated engine."
"An obvious question is what customers of the company’s paid software -- Internet Security Suite 2012 -- will get over and above the free client and the answer seems to be extras such as parental controls, credit monitoring and the company’s virtual browser technology," Techworld's John E. Dunn.
"Most consumers are unwittingly making themselves an easy target for cyber criminals," Check Point vice president Bari Abdul said in a statement. "They lack a strong two-way firewall, are unwilling or unable to pay for security, or they just have left their security on the backburner. People are putting themselves at serious risk by not having minimum security, which at least includes a firewall and antivirus software. It's basically like leaving your home with the doors unlocked."
"By making ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall free and convenient, we hope to spur a widespread Internet security movement that will help consumers better protect themselves from dangerous predators lurking online," Abdul said.
