Webroot Warns of Malicious Android Font Apps on Google Play
The apps downloaded spyware that monitored the victim's SMS, call logs and location.
Webroot researchers recently came across new Android malware called Android.TechnoReaper, which has two parts -- a downloader available on Google Play, and the spyware the downloader is designed to install (h/t Softpedia).
The apps on Google Play were disguised as font installing apps, and they appear to offer that functionality once installed on a user's phone -- but the apps also download a file called ikno.apk.
"The file ikno.apk is spyware that monitors SMS, call logs, and location," writes Webroot's Nathan Collier. "The information about your device and various activities is logged through a web portal."
Both apps have since been removed from Google Play.
