New Phishing Campaign Targets iPhone Users

Sophos researchers have reported that a fake iPhone warranty offer is being used to steal user data.

"[The] campaign is being driven by spam that arrives in people's e-mail in-boxes disguised as a message from Apple (distribution address: iphonewarranty@apple.com) offering a bonus 1 year warranty extension and asking recipients to click on a link that takes them to a URL that very accurately copies the company's trademark clean marketing style," writes eWeek's Matt Hines.

"Upon entering the device info, the site does not even ask for personal information such as an individual's name or phone number, which should be a dead giveaway that it is a scam," Hines writes. "While many attacks should raise users' suspicions when they seemingly ask for too much personal information, scams such as this which require surprisingly few details should give pause to people as well."
