GSM Crack May Prompt Carrier Upgrades

H4RDW4RE LLC's Karsten Nohl, who recently demonstrated how to break GSM encryption, hopes the demo will prompt carriers to update their security.

"Nohl said a newer A5/3 encryption algorithm exists, but operators have been slow to deploy it," writes SearchSecurity.com's Robert Westervelt.

"Nohl urged security professionals at enterprises to be aware of the potential threat and use additional security mechanisms to protect sensitive calls," Westervelt writes.
