Twitter.com was hacked on December 17th, with the microblogging site's home page replaced by a message stating, "This site has been hacked by Iranian Cyber Army."

"The attackers apparently were able to redirect Twitter users by stealing the credentials needed to administer the domain name system (DNS) records for Twitter.com," writes Security Fix's Brian Krebs.

"It remains unclear how the user name and password needed to change Twitter's DNS records were intercepted," Krebs writes. "There are a number of possible explanations, but perhaps the most likely is that a Twitter administrator with authorized access to those credentials had his or her e-mail account hijacked."
