Chinese Hackers Publish 20 Million Hotel Reservations
The leaked data includes phone numbers, home addresses and e-mail addresses.
The South China Morning Post reports that hackers in China recently leaked a database of approximately 20 million hotel reservations on several Web sites and on the messaging service WeChat (h/t DataBreaches.net).
In September 2013, the hackers apparently leveraged a security vulnerability at Chinese hotel Wi-Fi provider CNWisdom to access hotel booking information, including phone numbers, home addresses and e-mail addresses. The data wasn't made widely available until recently.
According to the South China Morning Post, the data is now on offer via an automated service on WeChat as well as through straightforward search functions on at least three Web sites, along with file sharing sites -- the Yangcheng Evening News reports that a wedding in Shanghai was recently canceled after the bride found her groom's extensive hotel reservation records on one of the sites.
