A worm most likely created in Germany was reported in the wild Thursday by anti-virus vendor Symantec.

VBS.Waterworks.Worm is a Visual Basic script worm that spreads on all the local and mapped drives, according to Symantec. It overwrites .vbs and .html files. VBS.Waterworks.Worm can also spread using mIRC. If the system date is Oct. 15, Nov. 23 or Dec. 25, this worm will display one of three message boxes.

Blackout Worm a Minor Threat

Panda Software is reporting the appearing of the Blackout Worm, which disables the Shutdown option in the Windows Start button menu. It sometimes displays a message on screen. The Blackout Worm infects Word documents, but it is considered a very minor threat.
